The Community Service Mission
Picture
The mission of the community service group is to provide quilts, knitted and crocheted blankets, hats and scarves to those in need in both our community and those in neighboring communities. Community Service donations
in 2025 were as follows: 513 Quilts, 122 Port Pillows, 12
Hospice Gowns, 59 Burp Bibs, 107 Knitted/Crocheted
items. The total of all donations came to 813 items.

Community Service meets every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. under the direction of Clareen Bolton, Bev Johnson, and Sharon Magnuson. We have a group of dedicated ladies who like to come to share their love of quilting for others, as well as enjoy the social interaction. Others prefer to come in to get supplies and work at home.

All members of Needle Arts are welcome to come on any Thursday to get fabric and supplies for community service projects. Our heartfelt thanks to all who donate their time, materials, and talents to make Community Service successful.

Below is a list of suggested quilt sizes if you wish to donate. These are recommendations, not absolute requirements.
  • Baby: 35 inches x 45 inches
  • Kids: 40 inches x 55 inches

Quilts Delivered for Altadena Fire Victims

Picture
I delivered 52 wonderful quilts to 'The Sew N Sew' quilt shop in Glendora, CA. last Wednesday. The staff at the shop were very appreciative of SCLH Needle Arts' generous donation. The quilts, along with 5 afghans crocheted by the St Joseph's Parish prayer shawl group in Lincoln, will be distributed soon to fire victims of the Eaton fire in Altedena.

A big thank you goes to the SCLH Needle Arts Community Service group for your donation of 33 quilts and also to the individual Needle Arts members who donated one or more quilts to this very worthy cause. Thank you also to St. Joseph's Parish for their afghan donations too! It was an honor and privilege to deliver this special care package to a community in great need!

Thank you again!

2024 Port Pillows
Picture
Our Community Service group made 74 port pillows within one week of getting the call to fulfill this need for Sutter’s Infusion Center! These fit over a car’s seat belt to cushion an infusion patient’s access port, usually found on the chest. Amazing work ladies!!

Cheryl, who brought this need to our attention, is pictured holding the donated port pillows. She delivered them to Sutter’s infusion center. We hope to be able to continue making port pillows and not only supply them to Sutter, but also Kaiser and UC Davis infusion centers on an ongoing basis.

2024 Aprons and Bonnets
Picture
We had the opportunity to donate 10 aprons and 5 bonnets, along with some bandanas to the Fruitvale Schoolhouse Museum in Lincoln. The museum sponsors field trips for local third grade classes that allow the children to experience what it was like to attend a one-room schoolhouse long ago.

Many of the children dress in costumes reminiscent of the times, but some children can't afford these outfits. By having aprons, bonnets and bandanas available, these children don't have to feel left out and can enjoy the field trip along with those in costume. Nettie Redden (not pictured), Sharon Magnuson, and Dawn Everhart were the worker bees who made these cute items. Thank you, Community Service, for all that you do for our community!
